Yi-wen Yu, an academic flaneur. In recentyears, she wandered through Heidelberg University, Kyoto University, UCBerkeley, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She also roamedthrough various disciplines: political science, economic sociology, economicand financial history as well as historical sociology. On her tortuous academicjourney, a self-imposed question lingered in her mind — as a scholar, what is her andher research’s realcontribution to the society?
The question remains. She is still activelyexploring answers. For the moment, she has taken on the role of a knowledgebroker, translating unreadable academic knowledge into accessible articles formagazines, newspaper, and websites. Let’s hope that, even under great pressure of career advancement, shecan persevere and prevail in her quixotic quest!
