2020年7月16日，亚洲愿景研究所专职研究员、上海交大国际与公共事务学院柬埔寨籍校友孟格达维德（Mengdavid THONG）受邀在柬埔寨国家新闻频道（CNC），就美国大选进行了直播评论。
孟格达维德首先介绍了他对共和党候选人、现任总统特朗普和总统候选人、民主党前副总统乔·拜登在美国目前发生的各种问题上的竞争概况。孟格达维德指出，美国在新冠疫情防控、种族歧视、中美贸易战以及美国退出亚欧等地区多边组织和倡议等问题上的不当举措都暴露了特朗普总统的领导能力不足的问题。直播节目中，他分享了他对谁将赢得2020年美国总统大选的三点看法：首先民主党候选人乔·拜登的得票率比总统唐纳德·特朗普高出14%（亚利桑那州、佛罗里达州、密歇根州、北卡罗来纳州、宾夕法尼亚州、威斯康辛州）；其次，特朗普总统出身商人，而乔·拜登在美国的政治和安全方面比特朗普更有政治倾向，经验更丰富；最后，乔·拜登的国内政策更倾向于经济结构调整和种族平等，外交政策则是通过参与更多的全球领导和多边组织以及气候变化等倡议，重新塑造美国在国际社会中的“模范”国家形象。而特朗普总统则面临着许多的国内挑战，如经济崩溃、社会不平等以及贸易保护主义政策。访谈的最后，孟格达维德指出，美国今年11月大选将会是美国历史上的一个新的转折点，特朗普总统应当更加致力于国内经济结构的改革，制定有效措施，遏制和防止新冠疫情的蔓延，同时并尽早停止与中国的“贸易战”，与中国进行自由公平贸易。
孟格达维德是国务学院2018级政治学国际硕士生，毕业于2020年6月，毕业后就职于亚洲愿景研究所任专职研究员，曾就职于柬埔寨外交部、劳动和职业培训部。

Mengdavid shared his overview of the race between the Republican candidate, currently President Donald Trump, and presidency challenger, former Vice President from Democrats party Joe Biden, over various issues happening in the United States now. Mengdavid pointed out President Donald Trump’s weak of leadership over the matter of COVID 19,racialdiscrimination, the Trade War and the U.S withdrawal from themultilateral organizations and initiatives from across the regions such as Asia and Europe. He further shared his perspective over who will win the election. Firstly,he argued that Democrats candidate Joe Biden received 14% more than President Donald Trump based on 6 major states polls (Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin). Secondly,President Trump’sbackground is a businessman while Joe Biden is more political oriented. Joe Biden hasmore experience than Trump in the politics and security of the United States. Lastly, Joe Biden’s domestic policy is more “reformative” toward economic restructure and racial equitywhile his foreign policy is to reimage the United States as the “Role Model” country in the international community by engaging in more global leadership and multilateral organizations and initiatives such as climate change, diplomacy and foreign aids, security and peace and terrorism. President Trump is facing many domestic challenges such economic collapse, social inequality and suffering from protectionism policy over the trade issue and multilateral engagement. Finally, Mengdavid shared in final thought over the U.S November Election as a new turning point in the U.S. history, and suggestedPresident Trumpshouldmakemore committed to reform his domestic economic structure, formulate effective measure to counter and prevent the spread of CoVID 19 while construct a comprehensive framework to resolve the “Trade War” with China.
Mr. Mengdavid THONG, graduated from SIPA, SJTU in June 2020 with his master diploma in Political Science, is a research fellow at Asian Vision Institute from June 2020. He used to work at the Cooperation International and Affairs Foreign of Ministry, and Department of Labor and Vocational Training (Mondulkiri Province).
